Did you make a New Year's Resolution?I love resolutions. I am a visionary, a dreamer. Imagining new and better realities really gets me going. But I hate when those resolutions don't become reality. There are plenty of excuses I can make for allowing them to not come true: lack of time, finances, energy; too many other "important" things that need to get done, blah, blah, blah. Excuses rob us of our dreams. I have found that it is almost impossible to make resolutions become reality if they live in the vaccum of my mind or if I allow myself to make excuses. Resolutions are just nice thoughts unless they are written down and paired with a plan of action! did you make a plan to bring your resolutions to reality?Making a plan to accomplish your resolutions is just as important as, or maybe more so than the resolutions themselves. A plan is what will bring those ideas into your daily life and create habits that will help them become real. So take some time to make a plan of action. I had a resolution last year to write a book. It was a vision God gave me two years ago but I had not made a plan of action to bring it to reality. I had lots of ideas swirling around in my mind about what I wanted to include in the book but I couldn't get it into any order that would make a cohesive book. That is until I was reminded about mind-mapping. Mind-mapping is a powerful tool to get all your ideas from your mind onto paper and create some order. Mind map your resolutions! You can do a mind map for each individual resolution or you can do a mind map that has them all like in the picture. Start with the main resolution and from there branch off actions and ideas that support that resolution. Take 10-15 minutes just writing down everything that is included in your resolution. Don't judge what you are writing at this stage. After you have the mind map done, you can go through each resolution and work backwards creating a plan of action. What new habits do you need to adopt that will help your resolution become a reality? For my goal of writing a book, I made a word count goal of 1000 words a day. I sat down every day and typed out 1000 words of my book for about a month. I made myself do it whether I felt inspired or not that particular day. That is the thing about plans. They can be worked even when you don't feel inspired. Taking small actions every day will help train your motivation muscles and bring you closer to making the resolution a reality. Nothing of value comes without hard work and sacrifice. This is the same for your resolutions. If it was easy, it wouldn't be your resolution, it would already be your reality. It is OK to get help with your resolutions!Getting help with making your resolutions a reality is one way to create a short-cut to success. This is what helped me with my book resolution last year. I invested in making my resolution a reality with Self Publishing School. I can honestly say that without the plan of action from SPS I would still have the resolution of writing a book. My book would not have become a reality. Sometimes we do not have all the knowledge we need within ourselves to create a plan of action to reach our resolution. Insead of devoting more time and energy into researching, we can use the tried and true plan of another who has gone before us. Using the plan of action from someone already successful is a way to gurantee your success if you are committed to working the plan.
